Introduction
JESUS is God’s Son and the Saviour of the world. God sent Him into the world because every person in the world is already condemned to die as a result of their sin. This condition came about because of the disobedience of Adam and Eve (the first man and woman) and doing wrong has been part of the human condition since. They disobeyed God. As a result, they were condemned, to die spiritually (separated from God), to a life of doing wrong, and to eventual biological death. They also passed sin and death to everyone, like an infectious disease.
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6: 23)
God is a God of love and rescued us from our condition of sin and sentence of death. This is the subject of the following Scripture:
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
(John 3:16-18)
Therefore, although the first man brought sin and death to all his offspring, God sent His own Son, Jesus, to stand in the place of sinful man, to lay down His life as a sacrifice for many.
Jesus, although righteous and without any sin of His own, died on a cross for every person.
